The pupil council provides pupils with the opportunity to express their opinions about the school issues which are important to them.
Membership
Every year, each P4 – P7 class elects a pupil council representative. Primary 7 classes choose one boy and one girl representative to ensure there is a gender balance on the council. These representatives have responsibility for presenting pupils’ views to the head teacher. The pupil council members discuss the issues with the head teacher and try to agree solutions to any problems.
Meetings
The pupil council meet with the head teacher on the last Friday of the month. Prior to the meeting the secretary and chairperson collect items for the agenda from all of the classes. Class teachers will arrange opportunities before the meeting for pupils to highlight areas of concern or to talk about ideas for making the school a safe, happy place for everyone to learn. Pupils are encouraged to ask the councillors for help if anything is troubling them. It has been agreed that children and adults are not identified by name during the meetings.
After the meeting the councillors provide feedback to their classes and provide each class with a record of the decisions made.
