Football in Active Schools

With football being one of the most popular sports in Scotland, we actively encourage and support participation amongst school-aged children and young people, be they boys or girls.

A great deal of work is done in West Dunbartonshire by the Football Development Team, who provide curriculum-time sessions to primary schools and are heavily involved in the local club and league structures.

Complementing this service are the numerous extra-curricular football clubs, often based in schools and led by teachers, janitors and parents that operate with the help and support of Active Schools. Equipment, resources and training are all on offer through the Active Schools Coordinators.

With football becoming increasingly popular with girls and young women, we are currently working closely with Football Development on a joint plan to get more girls involved in playing football. An action plan is currently being worked through to establish local teams for P4 girls. In addition, the links to local clubs with junior sections are being strengthened to establish a clear pathway for participation and performance for the girls involved.

If you would like more information on football or would like to get involved, please contact us.
