Computer courses for residents of West Dunbartonshire

The Adult Learning Team provide a variety of computer courses that suit almost every starting point. From learning how to use a mouse to gaining a more in depth knowledge of specific programmes; there is generally a course to suit anyone who is at the stage of starting out with computers and is a wee bit unconfident in their ability. So, whether you are a terrified beginner or  are confused by email attachments, there is a course in your locality to meet your needs.

Listed below are a flavour of some of the opportunities that are available to learn more about computers in your community:

Digital Friends

Digital Friends offer one to one support to people who are just starting out with computers. Here you can learn the very basics such as using a mouse, keyboard skills as well as being able to explore the possibilities of how a computer could benefit your lifestyle. The programme of learning is designed around your needs and interests.

The tutors in Digital Friends are all volunteers who have been through various computer courses themselves and they are very aware, through their own experience, of how nerve wracking learning a computer can be, so their emphasis is on having fun and being very relaxed. They have bags of patience!

If you are just starting out and are feeling unconfident this may just be the place for you.

Introductory Courses

The introductory courses last 10 weeks and offer an introduction to the basics of computing, focussing  on aspects such as word proccessing, internet and emaill and desktop publishing, amongst others. The courses run in various locations throughout West Dunbartonshire and run at times to suit all.

There are two courses: a beginners and an advanced beginners to choose from and on completion of these the next step would be to go onto an accredited course.

If you feel that you would like to master the basics of computing and would be confident enough to join a course then this would be the place for you.

Accredited Courses

Accredited computing courses offer you the chance to progress your computing skills and get a qualification into the bargain! The courses on offer cover both general computing skills as well as looking into specific aspects of computing at a more in depth level. The courses at this level run for twenty weeks and as with the introductory courses they are held in various community settings at various times to suit.
