Use of solid fuel appliances in smoke control areas

It is becoming increasingly popular for householders to install alternative heat and power sources in their homes. This increase in use of solid fuel burning stoves and open fires can lead to a marked deterioration of local air quality.  It is therefore vital to consider the implications of installing appliances which burn solid fuel whether it be coal or wood.

Before you purchase a solid fuel burner you should consider

  • Whether your property is within a smoke control area.  All of the West Dunbartonshire area apart from Gartocharn is covered by Smoke Control Orders.
