Digital TV Switchover

The existing Communal Television Network within West Dunbartonshire Council’s housing stock is in the process of being replaced with a Digital Television Network to receive Digital Satellite Television Signals. As each block of buildings affected is converted they can draw off the new system for Digital Reception.

The current conversion date for Digital in the West Dunbartonshire Council Area is estimated at year 2010/2011 according to the Digital Television Government Website www.digitaluk.co.uk.

We have been working to convert properties in Clydebank who have no real choice in where they get their television signals from because of restrictions due to their property type. This work is entering it's last phase this year in Clydebank and all properties which are being converted will be complete by 31st March 2009. We are also conscious that we have had a high level of no access during the works phase that may be due to these properties already being connected to cable systems.

In respect of the “no real choice” issue the Council are only converting properties such as Multi Storey and larger tenemental properties where these are in fact currently connected to the existing communal system. We will not be converting all properties currently connected to the existing communal system and we are excluding all terraced, low-rise tenements up to 6 flats, 4 in block or semi-detached properties.

These properties do have choice and can connect to cable systems largely in place now or can enter into a contract themselves with suppliers such as Sky for a Satellite Dish installation on their external wall at their own cost. It is not clear, as there is no history available to us as to why these properties were connected to a communal system in the past.

We will be moving into the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Areas in 2008 and will work to these same principles there.

The existing unique (Blick/Stanley Solutions) Analogue Communal System in Clydebank will remain on until the cut off date of 2010/2011 (this may vary and be earlier depending on Government Decisions outwith our control) for those customers that have not been included in the Digital Upgrade. Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Areas will be supported on the same basis with the Council owned system.

The Council's Repairs and Contact Centres have been provided with a list of the addresses being converted should you wish to enquire as to whether your home will be converted by us. Alternatively, you can view a full list of all conversion addresses by downloading Digital TV Conversion Addresses (33 KB .pdf document).
