Required Proof

  

What proof do I need to send with my application form?

 

There may be certain instances where we many need to check so that we can give your application the right priority or decide the size of house we can consider you for

 

You should check if any of the following situations apply to you.

 

You may send documents you are using as proof with application form or take them with into one of our local housing office where they can be checked by a member of staff and given back to you. If you cannot provide the proof required straight away, you should return the application form to us without it. When we receive your form, we will write to you and ask to send the information. 

 

 

 

Address

 

We need proof of address from everyone applying except those who are existing tenants of West Dunbartonshire Council. (We can check these addresses from our own records)

 

You need to send us one of the following items, which should be an original document, but not a photocopy:-

 

  • Bank statement                 
  • Driving licence
  • Utility Bill  ( for example , gas, electricity or water)
  • Letter or paperwork form the Department of Works and Pensions

 

 

 

 

Non - UK Citizen

 

If you are a Non-UK citizen, we need to see your passport to check that you are entitled to apply for council housing.

 

 

 

 

Separation

 

If you have separated from your husband, wife or partner but are still living together, we need proof that you are separated so we can award points for sharing accommodation or sharing facilities. This proof could be a letter from a solicitor or a letter from your partner confirming you have separated.

 

 

 

 

Shared access arrangements

 

We need proof of shared access arrangements if you ant to be considered for an extra bedroom for children to live with you less than half of the time. This can either be a letter from a solicitor or a letter from the other parent confirming the arrangement.

 

 

 

 

Connection with West Dunbartonshire

 

If you are living outside West Dunbartonshire, you should provide proof if you:

 

  • Are working or have been offered a job in West Dunbartonshire.
  • Are looking for a job in West Dunbartonshire.
  • Have a relative or carer in West Dunbartonshire.
  • Have medical or special social reasons for living in West Dunbartonshire.
  • Are being harassed in your current home (We require proof form the police if this is the case).

 

 

 

 

You need to leave your current accommodation

 

If you have a date to leave your current accommodation, we will require proof to be able assess your application the correct amount of points

 

If you are homeless or threatened with homeless within the next two months, you should contact the WDC Homeless Section at Roseberry Place, Clydebank, or Dumbarton Homeless Office, College Way. Or telephone 0800 1971004

 

 

Private Sector tenancy

 

If you are in a private sector tenancy and is coming to an end, we require your:

 

  • AT5,

  • Tenancy agreement ; and

  • Notice to Quit

 

 

Lender taking action to repossess your property

 

If legal action is being taken against you to recover your property, we require proof that you have to date to leave your home.

 

Loss of Tied Accommodation

 

If you are being asked to leave housing that has been provided as part of your job and it is ending, you will required to provide proof of this.

 

Leaving HM Armed Forces

 

If you are leaving the armed forces, if would beneficial to provide your discharge documents.

 

 

 

 

Property below tolerable standard

 

If you state on your form that you think that your property is below the tolerable standard and live within West Dunbartonshire, we may contact you and arrange to visit your home to check its condition

 

 

Definition of Tolerable Standard

 

The Housing (Scotland) Act 1987 applies to areas dealing with housing and any related faults or problems. This legislation details what is know as tolerable standard which sets out the minimum standard required for a house to be fit to live in.

 

Closing Orders

 

If we  establish that a house in a state if disrepair, there is a range of actions that West Dunbartonshire Council could take including

 

  • Threatening legal action

  • Serving notice on the landlord or owner informing hem that they must carry out repairs or improvement work. 

  • Serving a closing order or demolition order on the property to stop anyone living in the property.
