The Council has fully furnished flats available for temporary accommodation. Some of these flats have on-site 24 hour support. This accommodation is provided until we reach a decision on your application. The average length of stay in temporary accommodation is around 12 weeks. If you don't qualify for priority permanent housing, we will offer temporary accommodation, advice and help for at least 28 days. This should give you time to find alternative accommodation.

Paying for Temporary Accommodation
Housing benefit may cover some of the costs of temporary accommodation. The amount of Housing Benefit you receive will depend on your personal circumstances, savings and income. West Dunbartonshire Council will make every effort to ensure the accommodation found for you is affordable.

For 2009/10, the cost of fuel within temporary accommodation in West Dunbartonshire is £7.00 a week. You will need to pay for these items out of your own money (for example, from Income Support or other benefits you receive).

Homeless Services operate an emergency service for anyone made homeless outside office hours. This freephone number is 0800 197 1004. Out of office hours emergency cases are dealt with within 30 minutes.
