Shining Stars Programme

The Council is committed to policies which support social inclusion and recognises disability as one of the major barriers to equality of opportunity. The Council is also committed to increase participation in physical activity by children and young people. The "Shining Stars" programme offers a range of activities designed for children with or affected by disabilities aged 4 to 15 years. A full programme of activities will be held during school holidays at Easter, summer and October.

Swimming lessons are also available throughout the year which are run by the Sports Development Unit and held in the Play Drome and Vale of Leven Swimming Pool.

For further information visit the Shining Stars page.

Neighbourhood Fitness Centres

Cosmopolitan Neighbourhood Fitness Centres are funded by the Scottish Executive’s Better Neighbourhood Services Fund and operated by West Dunbartonshire Council’s Leisure Services Section.

The fund enables local authorities and their community planning partners to improve access to new and enhanced services, particularly for young people and residents from most disadvantaged neighbourhoods.

For more information visit the Neighbourhood Fitness Centres web page.

Free Fitness Assessments

As part of West Dunbartonshire Council's commitment to improve the health of residents, we are now providing free fitness assessments in our local leisure centres the Meadow Centre, the Play Drome and the Vale of Leven Swimming Pool. Available to all adults the assessment provides you with an indication of your current level of fitness in comparison to people of a similar age and sex, with fully qualified staff providing advice on appropriate exercise and lifestyle.
