Places to see in Vale of Leven/Balloch

Balloch is located further along the A82, at the southern end of beautiful Loch Lomond, about 4 miles north of Dumbarton with a direct rail link from Glasgow. The village has an array of quality hotels & B&Bs, eateries and craft shops. Loch Lomond Shores hosts the principal Gateway Centre to Scotland’s first National Park (Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park) as well as Balloch Castle Country Park which can be accessed through a short walk from the shore.

The Vale of Leven is associated with its industrial history. During the 18th century, the area was known for its bleacheries and dyeing of textiles. Alexandria, situated south of Balloch, was home to the Argyll motor works which was at the time, the world’s largest motor car works. This historic building now features the Loch Lomond Galleries as well as the interesting Motor Heritage Centre.  Nearby is the Antartex Village Visitor Centre, which combines an array of retail including sheepskins, crafts and arts.
