Statistics for Tourism in West Dunbartonshire

This section provides you with the latest facts and figures on West Dunbartonshire’s tourism industry which is derived from an evaluation model called STEAM (Scottish Tourism Economic Activity Model).  STEAM measures the value of tourism from the demand and supply side with the outputs supplied being used as a local economic indicator.  This is the only robust model available at the moment which provides indicators for tourism growth that can be compared with other STEAM measured regions.

 

Recent figures for 2010 STEAM Data for West Dunbartonshire interprets as follows:

 

  • West Dunbartonshire attracts 827,000 visitors (which remains unchanged compared with 2009)

  • Total value of tourism is £81.24 million (which is a 1% increase compared with 2009)

  • 274,000 overnight trips to West Dunbartonshire in 2010 worth £57m

  • Day visitors account for 67% of total visitor numbers to the area (which accounts for £54.43m of tourism revenue)

  • Accommodation accounts for 16% of expenditure

  • Food & drink accounts for 16% of expenditure

  • 1,735 jobs are directly & indirectly supported by visitor spending
