Libraries Week, from the 9-14 October, is the annual showcase of all the creative, innovative and diverse activities that UK libraries have to offer.
Libraries Week is a chance to discover the range of things you can do at your library, from play and learning for children, to getting health or community information, to accessing wifi and games, to finding a job, a hobby or learning new skills.
It’s not just public libraries – libraries of all kinds in schools, workplaces and universities have amazing services that will be on show during Libraries Week.
West Dunbartonshire Libraries will be supporting Libraries Week by running a week of compelling activities designed to give visitors a great experience. You can expect to see themes and activities based around your library’s collections and key services including family, health, digital, creative and educational experiences.
You have the opportunity to find out about the full range of services and support that Macmillan can offer to those people who have cancer or who are supporting a family member with it, this will take place in Dalmuir Library on the 9th of October from 12.30 – 4.55 pm.
You can also participate in workshops to teach you how to use your library to explore your family history, these workshops will be run respectively in Clydebank and Dumbarton Libraries on the 10th and 11th of October from 10.30 am – 4.00 pm.
For those of a creative bent there is the opportunity to hear and meet the wonderful Laura Lam, the acclaimed author of the dystopian novels False Hearts and Shattered Minds, at Duntocher Library on the 9th of October at 7.00 pm.
If you love the natural world then you will not want to miss leading nature writer Jim Crumley who is discussing his new book, The Nature of Winter at Balloch Library on Tuesday the 10th of October at 7.30 pm.
We are also running drop-in sessions in which you can learn how to use our ebooks and magazines as well as exploring the uses of 3D printing.
