The second World War had a profound impact on the people of West Dunbartonshire. The infamous Clydebank Blitz of the 13th-14th March 1941 devastated Clydebank, leaving only seven houses undamaged. According to official figures, 528 people were killed and a 617 seriously injured.
Throughout the area, local industries were targeted because they produced ships, munitions and aircraft to help the war effort. Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven also hosted evacuated children and families who had been bombed out.
This part of the Museum Without Walls shows wartime artefacts and photographs and provides an all round view of the Home Front and life in 1940s Britain.
