Social Work Services Responsibilities
Alcohol or drug concerns can arise for any individual, for any family, and within any community. Addiction Services in West Dunbartonshire have been planned for everyone to, where possible, meet each individual's needs.
There are services to prevent problems, through education, use of the media, information and support. There are also treatment services for those wishing to reduce or stop using alcohol or drugs. For those who are recovering, or who are supporting someone to recover from an addiction, there is support and rehabilitation.
Addiction Services have been planned through a partnership of agencies and community groups, which jointly make up the membership of the West Dunbartonshire Alcohol and Drug Forum. The Forum brings together all services, ensuring the best possible support for people when they need it.
The Forum also ensures services learn from examples of best practice nationally and internationally. In line with best practice, West Dunbartonshire Addiction Services are modelled around a Care Pathway. Most individuals need more than one service over time. The Care Pathway model allows individuals to access the right service at the right time and to move between services over time.
Whether it is information or medical treatment, the service should be there when it is needed.
The Future of Addiction Services Team (FAST) is a forum for people who currently access services from addiction service providers throughout West Dunbartonshire, to come together and deliver input into the management, design and delivery of these services.
The members of FAST have produced their own newsletter (382KB PDF), the aim of which is to provide information and advice to the community regarding issues relating to alcohol and drug abuse.
