Lifestyles and Health
Health-related behaviour – sometimes called “lifestyle” - refers to individual behaviour in relation to issues such as diet, physical activity, use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
It is influenced by cultural attitude and beliefs, economic factors such as income, and social factors such as level of education and access to information. People living in poverty find it more difficult to adopt healthy behaviour due to factors such as low income, stress, poor access to support and amenities. These social and economic pressures lead to a poorer diet, less exercise and more use of tobacco .
Efforts to improve people’s lifestyle should account for the complex interaction between individuals and their social, economic and physical environment.
Examples include: -
- Leisure and physical activity
Diet, obesity and food issues
Use of Tobacco, Alcohol and Other Drugs
Stress and mental health
