Dementia Service Guide - Draft for Consultation, July 2006

More services and supports are becoming available for people with dementia and their carers. The range of services is quite varied, and complex care packages can be built up where they are needed, by combining a variety of different services that come from a range of sources including social work services, health services, voluntary organisations and private agencies.

This guide is an attempt to make finding the service or services your require easier.

Social work staff can arrange for the provision of certain services to an individual following their assessment, some services come from social work others come from voluntary or private agencies. A medical assessment will be carried out by a GP and will be able to provide information about dementia. Where a specialist is required, a referral may be made to a consultant psychiatrist, old age psychiatrist or geriatrician.
