Partnership in Practice - The Same as You?

The Scottish Executive review of services for people with learning disabilities "The Same As You?" was published in May 2000, with a ten year strategic plan for learning disability services. The review required Partnership in Practice Agreements to provide a joint vision of future direction and funding of learning disability services and to specify how the local authority, NHS Boards and their partners plan to use both existing and new resources to achieve the review's objectives. This Partnership in Practice Agreement builds on the foundations laid by the first three year Agreement and sets out plans for development and improvement over the next three years, 2004 to 2007.

People with learning disabilities and their families are entitled to as full a life as possible. They are entitled to feel valued and to be included in society. They and their carers generally know best what support they need and they should be at the heart of decisions that affect their lives.

Partnership in learning disability services involves West Dunbartonshire Council, NHS Argyll and Clyde, NHS Glasgow, voluntary organisations, Communities Scotland, Clydebank College, Housing Associations, working together and with service users and carers to improve services.

People with learning disabilities need help from a number of different agencies and professionals at different stages in their lives. People with learning disabilities want, and should be able, to use the local services that everybody else uses - The Same As You.

Our aim for services for people with learning disabilities is to support individuals to have a fully integrated life in their local Communities. Good quality, flexible services are essential to ensure the needs of service users and carers are met.
