Roads Rapid Response Unit

The Council is responsible for maintaining all publicly adopted roads and footways with the West Dunbartonshire, except for trunk roads.

Adopted roads and footways are inspected on a regular basis. Any defects are recorded, allowing repairs to be scheduled. The maintenance methods used range from filling a pothole to complete reconstruction of sections of the road, see the information on road repairs for more detail.

Commercial and Technical Services are the Council Department have set up a Roads Rapid Response Unit in order to deal with roads defects which may pose an immediate danger to roads and footway users on our adopted road network. A Technical Assistant assesses problems and where appropriate they issue an immediate Rapid Response Request. This request falls into three categories:

  • Immediate

  • Half Working Day

  • Two Working Days

The daily work of the Rapid Response Unit is programmed so that the Unit can be released to attend to an 'immediate' Rapid Response Request if required and a selection of materials and equipment is kept ready so that they can carry out the most appropriate repair. The Unit's opening hours are:

Monday - Thursday 8:30 - 4:30pm
Friday 8:30 - 4.00pm
Saturday Service Unavailable
Sunday Service Unavailable

If you aware of a carriageway or footway defect that is a hazard on the public road network please telephone (01389) 737633. Alternatively, you can also use the 24 hour Roads and Lighting Fault (RALF) telephone number 0800 373635. When reporting a fault, please try to supply as much accurate information as possible about the location and description of the defect. Some problems have proven difficult to spot on the first visit and this can slow up the speed of response.

Providing a contact number and details allows us to get further information about the location, if required. This will also allow us to advise you if the problem reported is not the responsibility of West Dunbartonshire Council.
