This team provides diversionary activities for young people at key 'hotspot' times for anti social behaviour, mainly through The Pulse.

The Early Intervention Team coordinates diversionary activities for young people within West Dunbartonshire Council under the banner of The Pulse. The team will also be working with primary and secondary school pupils to get across messages about positive behaviour and being a responsible citizen.

What is the Pulse?

The Pulse is a multi-agency initiative providing diversionary activities for young people aged 12 - 18 years across West Dunbartonshire, focusing on identified anti-social behaviour hotspots. The activities are not just for young people who may have already offended or are at risk of being involved with the criminal justice system.

They are open to all young people, and provide a positive atmosphere in which young people are safer than they would be 'hanging about' on the streets, where they may become a victim of crime or anti-social behaviour themselves.

Where and when do the activities take place and how do young people take part?

The Pulse activities are free to drop in and take part in the varied activities. There are certain restrictions due to maximum numbers allowed in venues but if you come early enough you should gain access.

The Pulse operates two voucher schemes, Unit 23 Skate Park and activities with West Dunbartonshire Council Leisure Services.

Both aid in the monitoring of youth participation and costs. The vouchers are accessed through the local Police stations, Streetlinks, Y Sort it and Community Learning & Development (CL&D). (It should be noted that the voucher scheme will soon be replaced by the Young Scot Card)

The activities are organised to take place at the times when anti-social behaviour may be a problem. This means that most activities take place on a Friday, but some areas have activities on other nights too.

The Early Intervention Team continues to source additional funding in order to maintain the high standard and level of demand for activities in conjunction with relevant partners.

The Early Intervention Team continues to think outside the box in order to deliver activities for young people within West Dunbartonshire Council.

Some of these activities include music gigs for local young bands and evening Sports Leagues.
