Community Budgeting

Community Budgeting is part of West Dunbartonshire Council's Your Community Initiative and has been developed and refined over 4 phases as WDC's approach to Participatory Budgeting.

Community Budgeting is a method of allocating small grants to community groups and organisations. Groups can apply directly and the decision on which groups receive funding is made by local people through a voting process.

For Phase 5 of Community Budgeting there is a pot of £150,000 available for groups to bid for.

In the four previous phases of Community Budgeting, applicants were given the opportunity to present their ideas to the community via a publicity stall. Community members were then able to vote for the projects of their choice. This occurred in community locations where people had the opportunity to gather and see the wide variety of groups and organisations who were participating.

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic phase 5 will be based online and voting will be carried out remotely.
