Four new CCTV cameras have been installed in Balloch Park as part of work to improve public safety in communities across West Dunbartonshire.
The locations for the new cameras were identified by a multi-agency group walk-around including West Dunbartonshire Council and Police Scotland and were installed on Tuesday (3 August)
The new system will be used to support Police, park ranger and neighbourhood team patrols and deter anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Iain McLaren, Convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “These cameras will be invaluable in protecting people and property as well as deterring crime and antisocial behaviour in Balloch.
“We have been working with local communities to respond to recent incidences of anti social behaviour, and I hope the installation of additional cameras will give residents reassurance.
“These new cameras are part of a wider programme of measures we are taking along with our partners to protect our communities.”
Councillor Diane Docherty, Vice Convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development, added: “We recognise that warmer weather during the summer months coupled with increased visitors does lead to more instances of anti social behaviour.
“Our neighbourhood team, park rangers and Police Scotland carry out regular patrols in the area to intervene in any troubling or illegal behaviour, but these cameras provide an additional layer of comfort for residents and visitors.”
The Council’s Anti Social Behaviour and Neighbourhood teams have recently been extended to operate for longer periods in the evenings and over weekends, and this includes additional patrols.
Any instance of anti social behaviour can be reported to the teams on 01389 772048 between 8.30am and 2am Monday to Friday, or between 3pm and 2am on Saturday and Sunday, as well as to Police Scotland on 101.
In addition to patrolling, the Council offers a range of free to access activities over the summer months, in order to provide a productive and positive outlet for young people to engage in.
This includes Midnight League football, dance workshops and art classes on a Friday night. As part of the Youth Alliance Summer Sessions, local young people have also been given the opportunity to participate in activities including rock climbing, water adventures and outdoor activities.
The Council has also partnered with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to deliver an educational session for young people around fire safety.
