Residents holding accounts with Clydebank Municipal Bank are being encouraged to contact the bank ahead of its planned closure on 31 March 2023.

A number of account holders have already contacted the bank and made alternative banking arrangements, however, we are asking remaining account holders to contact the bank as a matter of urgency. The Bank is also advising customer to change standing orders paid into, or from, Municipal Bank accounts to ensure they are made to alternative bank accounts.

The closure of the bank will see the end of an account held within the bank used to support local charities. Four charities within West Dunbartonshire are set to benefit from a share of £20,000 thanks to contributions made by generous Council employees through a salary deduction scheme since 1952, helping many local charities over the years.

The four charities benefiting in a share of the £20,000 are Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels and Clydebank Women’s Aid, Food For Thought and Dumbarton District Women’s Aid.

Councillor Daniel Lennie, Convener of Corporate Services, said: “Letters have been sent directly to all account holders informing them of the closure date and the actions they need to take to close their accounts. We’ve had a good response so far from customers closing their accounts however we still have a significant number of account holders who are still to contact the bank to close their account.

“People with accounts not only have savings, but also have other payments and payments made to other parties linked to their accounts. It is therefore vital they make contact as soon as possible to close their accounts and put alternative banking arrangements in place.

I would also like to thank every single member of our workforce who, over the years, has contributed to the charity account.  Their kindness and generosity means we can offer support to four dedicated and worthy charities who work tirelessly for the people of West Dunbartonshire.”

Councillor Michelle McGinty, Vice Convener of Corporate Services, said: “I would encourage people to check with friends and family to see if they have an account, even one they haven’t used in a while, and remind them to make contact and close it down. Our employees are available to help, so if you or a family member has an account, please contact us now.”
