Former and current pupils of Braehead Primary gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dumbarton School this week
As part of the celebrations, visitors to the school enjoyed an exhibition displaying photographs and memorabilia through the decades from the 1970s to the present day, while talented pupils performed two concerts for parents and carers.
To mark the milestone, pupils also learned about the history of the school and the surrounding area as part of an Interdisciplinary Learning theme based on Dumbarton.
Head Teacher, Anne McFarlane, said: “It is a real privilege to be head teacher during this very special year for the school. Braehead Primary has a long and proud history in Dumbarton of serving local families and the children are a credit to the school. This is a great opportunity for people to come together and share their memories of their time here. The school has touched the hearts of thousands of children over the last five decades and it’s great we can celebrate this anniversary with the community.”
Convener of Educational Services, Councillor Clare Steel, said: “This is a great milestone to reach and I want to extend my congratulations to everyone at the school. Memorabilia outlining the successes of the school over the years is an excellent opportunity to show current and future pupils the vision of the school for every child to learn, succeed and be successful.”
Vice Convener of Educational Services, Councillor Michelle McGinty, said: "It is a real achievement for Braehead Primary School to still be at the centre of the Dumbarton community, educating its families after five decades. I am pleased the current pupils also got the opportunity to showcase their talent when welcoming families into the school to enjoy a special performance. I’m sure all our current and former pupils had a great time sharing stories and special memories of the school.”
