In terms of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010, West Dunbartonshire Council is now formally embarking upon a consultation with regard to the proposal to construct co-located replacements for St Joseph’s Primary School, St Joseph’s Rainbow Base and Edinbarnet Primary School, together with a new ELCC to replace Auchnacraig and Lennox ELCCs, and also provide a Community Library and Community space within the new campus to be located on the site of the current St Joseph’s Primary School.

We would welcome views from parents/carers, interested parties, and members of the community on the proposal.

The consultation will run from 30th September 2021 – until midnight on 17th November 2021.

There are a number of ways you can get involved and participate in the consultation:

  1. You can complete the online survey.
  2. You can put your response in writing to the Chief Education Officer at West Dunbartonshire Council, 16 Church Street, Dumbarton.  G82 1QL, or by email educationconsultation@west-dunbarton.gov.uk. 
  3. You can attend one of the public meetings (see dates below). 
  4. You may wish to put your view forward on an individual basis rather than participating in the public meeting or you may have some questions you want to ask and you can contact us on 01389  737391, leave a message with your contact details and one of our education officers will call you.

Public Meetings 

We would like to invite interested parties to attend one of the public consultation meetings.  The meeting  provides an opportunity for interested parties to hear more about the proposal, ask questions about the proposal and have their views recorded so that they could be taken into account as part of the consultation process.  We plan to run two one hour meetings (one on-line/ one face to face), places on the on-line session will be limited to allow discussion, however we will arrange more meetings if there is a demand to ensure everyone with an interest in this proposal is able to hear more detail.

Online Public Consultation Meeting

  • 4.00 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday 5 October 2021

If you are interested in attending the online session please note your interest by sending your name and email address to: educationconsultation@west-dunbarton.gov.uk.

We will then issue you with the Zoom joining details and password in advance of the meeting.

Public Meeting

  • 7.00 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday 5 October 2021, St. Joseph’s Primary School, Faifley Road, Faifley, G81 5EY.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions there are limited spaces available for the public consultation meeting as this is a face to face meeting. If you are interested in attending the public meeting please note your interest by sending your name and email address to: educationconsultation@west-dunbarton.gov.uk  and you will be notified that there is a place available.

In the event there are not enough places available further dates will be arranged.

Next Steps

After the consultation process has been completed, we will undertake the following action:

Education Scotland

When we have collated the information from the consultation exercise, we provide Education Scotland with information on the proposal and the responses to the survey.  The information will be passed to them on 29th November and they have 3 weeks to consider this and provide us with their report.

Consultation Report published

The Consultation Report will be published on our website on 15th February 2022. This will allow time for interested parties to review the report prior to a final decision being made by the Committee.  

Report to Educational Services Committee

The final decision on the proposal will be made by Committee at its meeting in March 2022.
