West Dunbartonshire Council have concluded the second phase of the Review of the Scheme for the Establishment of Community councils (the Scheme) and are progressing to the third stage of consultation.
At each stage reports are submitted to a special meeting of Council. The third and final stage will allow further consultation on the draft Scheme, associated documents and further consultation on boundaries for community council areas. This will present further opportunity to review documents and maps online and submit comments. There will be further discussions with representatives from community councils and other groups on the final contents of the Scheme and other documents.
The review is being carried out in line with the West Dunbartonshire Community Empowerment Strategy(2019) and as laid out in the Local Government Act (1973), Section 53 (1 ). This is an opportunity to modernise and update the Scheme to reflect changes in legislation and context. Following a Special council meeting on 24 February 2022, approval was granted to proceed with the 3rd stage of consultation, commencing on 8th March 2022 until 5th April 2022 with the Scheme being finalised at a further Special council meeting on 25th May 2022 for approval of the final Scheme and appendices.
Further information can be found on the Community Council Scheme Review page. Anyone wishing to make comments on the draft documents or Scheme content should contact the Communities Team, either via email at email@example.com, or in writing at Council offices, 16 Church Street Dumbarton, G82 1 QL.
