How to contact us if you need advice or support about your housing or homelessness

If you need advice and assistance to access housing or you are struggling with issues impacting on your ability to sustain your current home it is important that you get help as soon as possible to ensure your housing difficulties do not become a crisis.

Our Housing Options and Homelessness Prevention Team can provide a free tailored advice service about your housing options in West Dunbartonshire. This could include

  • Support to remain in your current accommodation including mediation support
  • Assistance to prevent homelessness and housing support dependant on your needs
  • Assistance to apply for a mutual exchange
  • Applying for either Council or Housing Association properties
  • Medical adaptations and Sheltered Housing
  • Options for owning your own home including shared ownership/equity
  • Advice regarding mortgage to rent options
  • Referrals to other services such as money advice, employability and health
  • Making a homeless application - if we have reason to believe that you are homeless or threatened with homelessness within 56 days then we have a statutory duty to investigate your situation and process an application for homeless assistance

If you need housing advice or think you are homeless or threatened with homelessness you should contact us as soon as possible to arrange an appointment.

We will let you know what types of information you will need to bring to your appointment but you should bring as much information as you can in relation to your housing need, for example, tenancy agreements, notice to leave, bank statements, proof of your financial circumstances.

Please also bring identification such as a valid passport, birth certificate, driving licence and biometric residency card if you have one.

By Train: The nearest train station is Dumbarton Central. Service information is available via ScotRail or Trainline websites.

By Bus: There are bus stops located at the front of the building and on the opposite side of the road on Church Street. The buses that service these stops are the 1, 1a, 206 and 208/218. Timetables and service information is available on the First Bus website. For the 208/218, timetables are available on the McGills buses website.

We also operate a drop in service for people who require emergency accommodation, please be aware it will be on a first come basis and you may have to wait to be seen.

Out of Hours Emergency Service for Homeless People

Homeless and Homelessness Prevention Services provide a 24 hour service every day of the year. If you become homeless when Council Offices are closed you can request assistance from an Officer by calling Freephone: 0800 197 1004
