This exhibition showcases artwork from the West Dunbartonshire Council Museum Collection.
Documenting the evolution of the 20th century female artist, the exhibition includes work by Jessie M King and Kate Cameron. Both were successful book illustrators and decorative artists who fought for recognition as fine artists in the male dominated art world of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
By the mid-20th century, artists such as Joan Eardley, Anne Redpath and Elizabeth Blackadder were forging successful careers and establishing a legacy that has inspired artists to this day.
A selection of work by these artists and others illustrates a fascinating artistic journey of changing style, form and medium.
A small selection of portraits of women are included in the exhibition.
