The West Dunbartonshire Community Sports Awards recognise, celebrate and honour the achievements and tireless sporting endeavours undertaken each and every day by people in communities throughout West Dunbartonshire. These local people have a passion for sport and the impact it can have on individuals, groups and themselves.
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 9 November 2018 at the state of the art and picturesque setting of Clydebank Leisure Centre.
Organised by West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust and West Dunbartonshire Council, the awards are now a well-recognised event in the sports community calendar, celebrating sports participation, well-being and team spirit across the local authority.
The event encompasses a wide range of sporting disciplines including recognising athletes, coaches, volunteers and sporting officials from local communities and clubs. The event will be attended by the nominees and their guests, invited guests and members of the local sporting community.
The criteria for the following award categories is based on the period August 2017 – August 2018 with the exception of the Hall of Fame Award.
Nominations are sought for coaches (aged 25 +) who have shown an outstanding commitment to the development of sporting opportunities in West Dunbartonshire and made a significant impact on the participation levels of people taking part and staying in sport.
Nominations are invited for young coaches aged 24 years or younger who have committed their time to supporting club or community sport, invested in their development as a coach and have made a significant impact on local people.
Nominations are sought to recognise the outstanding performance of senior athletes who are 18 years +. The award requires evidence of results, successes and achievements over the past year.
Nominations are invited to recognise the outstanding performance of junior athletes who are under 18 years of age. The award requires evidence of results, successes and achievements over the past year.
Nominations are sought for individuals from West Dunbartonshire who have made an outstanding contribution to sport in West Dunbartonshire over a prolonged period of time (e.g. 25+ years) or who have represented their nation on the international stage as an athlete, coach or official.
Nominations are invited for volunteers over 25 years of age who have made an outstanding commitment and contribution to the quality and success of activity and events at their club, team or school.
Nominations are sought for volunteers under 25 years of age who have made an outstanding commitment and contribution to quality and success of activity and events at their club, team or school.
Nominations are invited to recognise the successes and achievements of a club or team over the last year. Nominations within this category are expected to reflect how a club or team have achieved excellent performance results, overcome barriers to achieve goals, successfully attracted investment/funding to enhance activities for West Dunbartonshire residents, achieved a level of NGB quality accreditation and/or expanded their sessions to support a wide range of participants.
