Strike action is planned across the country on Tuesday 26 September, Wednesday 27 September and Thursday 28 September due to ongoing pay negotiations.

Employees expected to be on strike those days include those working in catering, cleaning, pupil support, administration and janitorial.

If no pay deal has been reached in advance of these proposed strike dates, all West Dunbartonshire schools, including Additional Support Needs schools and Early Learning and Childcare Centres attached to schools, will be closed to pupils on those days.

A small number of standalone ELCCs will remain open to children as detailed at the end of this letter.

Families with pupils who are entitled to free school meals will receive a direct payment to their bank account on Friday, 22 September to cover the closure.  Please note on the days of industrial action there will be no breakfast club or after school care provision and all school lets will be cancelled.

We are sorry for any disruption this strike may cause you as you make alternative arrangements for your children. Your children’s safety is our priority and while we share your frustrations, we can only open school buildings to pupils and young people when we are confident we have the key members of employees required to keep children safe.

ELCCs which will open as normal on Tuesday, 26 September, Wednesday, 27 September and Thursday 28 September 2023:

  • Andrew B Cameron
  • Auchnacraig ELCC
  • Brucehill
  • Clydebank

  • Dalmuir
  • Ferryfield
  • Lennox Faifley

Further updates will be posted on the Council’s website and social media platforms, and we would ask that you monitor those channels for information in advance of the planned strike days.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
