We use consultation meetings and psychological assessments to decide on how best to support your child.

Consultation meetings

At this meeting you will meet the staff looking at your child's needs to discuss a plan of action for your child. If it is appropriate your child will also attend this meeting.

You will be asked to come to the meeting at your child's school or centre. Staff who will be at the meeting include the educational psychologist, your child's teacher or key worker and any other staff you feel may be able to help.

Together, we will discuss what difficulties your child is having and why. We discuss what help has been a success and what help can be given in the future.

We agree on a plan that will:

  • set out our next steps
  • decide who will do what
  • agree a timescale for future meetings
  • tell you how you will be kept up to date on your child's progress.

Psychological assessments

At the consultation meeting we may agree to carry out further psychological assessment. This means that we gather information about your child in order to help support the needs of your child.

Information is gathered from:

  • talking to you, your child and your child's class teacher
  • looking at your child's work in class
  • looking at work we have asked them to do.

Time taken for an assessment varies depending on:

  • the reason for the assessment
  • the information that is needed
  • who we must speak to.
