Traditional church services to mark the start of the new term for West Dunbartonshire Council took place on Sunday 19th June.

The Kirkin o’ the Council is a long-held custom to inaugurate a new term for the Council and this years’ service was held at St Mary’s Church, Duntocher.

Councillors and senior officers were joined by Vice Lord Lieutenant Linda Moffat to attend the event with parishioners at their 10am mass.

Provost Douglas McAllister said: ““The Kirkin o’ the Council is a significant event for the Council, as it reinforces our Elected Members' commitment to serving the people of West Dunbartonshire. It was a great honour to join the parishioners of St Mary’s Church and we received a warm welcome from everyone. I would like to extend my thanks to Father Milarvie for the service.”

A special mention was given by Father Milarvie to Chief Executive Joyce White on her 14 year service to the Council and also gave his best wishes to Peter Hessett who now succeeds Ms White as the Council’s new Chief Executive.
