Residents are being given the opportunity to shape the area’s future as part of consultation looking at Council priorities for the next five years.

A draft Strategic Plan has been created for 2022-2027 which focuses on a number of key objectives, including empowering communities; promoting health and wellbeing; increasing the supply of good quality social housing; reducing inequalities, protecting the environment and improved travel routes.

The ambitious five-year strategy will help guide Council officers and elected members when making decisions so that a strong and flourishing economy is created in West Dunbartonshire, along with resilient and thriving communities.

In addition, the plan focuses on ensuring the area continues to implement sustainable technology and infrastructure, as well as providing Council services which are inclusive and adaptable.

Residents have the opportunity to consider and shape the plan before a final draft goes before committee for approval later this year.

Council Leader, Councillor Martin Rooney, said: “This consultation is one of the most important we run because the Strategic Plan underpins everything we do as a Council and it will be in place for the next five years. It sets out the vision not only of how we want to see West Dunbartonshire progressing over the next five years, but also what we can do to improve the lives of our residents, and empower them to fully participate in their communities.

“Our officers have worked extremely hard to get this document to this point and I would encourage all residents to take a look, and share your thoughts with us.

“All feedback is extremely valuable and your participation will ensure our communities’ voices are heard loud and clear as part of this process.”

Depute Council Leader, Councillor Michelle McGinty, added: “We want to properly understand what our residents’ priorities are, and that’s why we would like as many residents to take part in this consultation as possible.

“The information we gather through this will allow us to better plan Council services and how they operate over the next five years.”

The consultation is open now and will run until September 26.
