Children at Gavinburn Primary School and ELCC were excited to try out their new Reading Hut. Councillor Clare Steel, Convener of Educational Services, visited the school today to officially open the hut and speak to children who will benefit from the facility.

The hut, which will be used by all children, was funded by money raised by the Parent Council and designed by pupils with the help of architect Laura Clark, the group ran a competition asking pupils to design their special reading area.

Lorna Balckhurst, Head Teacher, said: “We were delighted to welcome Cllr Steel along to officially open our new reading hut.  The children are very excited and keen to spend time in their new space. I want to thank members of our Parent Council, Marie Wilson and Michelle Diamond for all their time and effort in delivering this new reading area for our children.”

Councillor Clare Steel, Convener of Educational Services, said: “It was just wonderful to meet the children and see how excited they are with their new outdoor reading hut. We must do all we can to foster a love of reading among children and it was great to meet the pupils and hear how passionate they are about their reading and see first-hand their enthusiasm. I’m sure the hut will be well used and will enhance reading opportunities for all children at the school and ELCC.”
