The heritage centre houses numerous collections relating to Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven including books, maps, pamphlets, photographs, postcards, directories and newspapers.
We have a broad collection of genealogy resources for those researching their family history, we provide FREE access on all public access library computers to Ancestry Library Edition and sell vouchers for the popular Scotland's People website.
The heritage centre also features exhibitions reflecting the history of Dumbarton and the surrounding area. These change regularly to explore local history collections, allowing the public access to historical documents, photographs and artefacts from West Dunbartonshire's collections
The heritage centre houses the archives for the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven area, the archive holdings date back to the 15th century.
The centre offers a wide range of titles on local history, with numerous local books and DVD's available for sale and also for lending and reference in the heritage centre.
We provide a research facility for those unable to visit the heritage centre, if you would like us to carry out research on your behalf, please use the link below to submit an enquiry, ensuring you supply any relevant information. The first half hour of research if free; thereafter we charge £15.00 per hour.
Local History Librarians are often available for people to drop-in, however it is always advisable to phone and book an appointment if you are making a special journey.
