It was a summer success throughout West Dunbartonshire as record numbers attended events hosted by Council services
A total of 2,322 adults and children enjoyed free events organised by the area's Libraries and Arts and Heritage teams throughout the summer across all eight branches and two outdoor locations.
The activities, which included a three day workshop to build Dumbarton Castle with LEGO in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland, art and craft classes such as stained glass window mosaics and Alexandria Library open day, were all part of a 168-strong programme of events held over six weeks.
Attendance at the classes was more than double the numbers who attended the summer sessions last year.
Councillor Daniel Lennie, Convener of Corporate Services said: “The programme this year has been jam packed with activities and events, and it’s been great to get along and be involved. Everyone really enjoys it no matter what age and they’re really happy that this is available on their doorsteps. We know that the cost of living is hitting our residents hard and this programme of events was just one of the ways the Council was able to ensure our young people enjoyed a varied and memorable summer break, while keeping the cost of the school holidays down for families to run.”
Councillor Michelle McGinty, Vice Convener of Corporate Services, said “The feedback about the programme has been great again this year, and the teams behind the planning and running of the activities should be really proud of the work they’ve carried out. It’s been fantastic to see how much these have been enjoyed and we are committed to ensuring these activities continue to run.”
