New litter picking stations are being installed along popular walking routes in West Dunbartonshire following requests from members of the community.

The Council’s Greenspace department developed the Quick Pick stations after contact from local volunteer groups, Friends of Dumbarton Foreshore and Friends of Leven River Valley.

Each Quick Pick Station contains litter pickers and reusable buckets for either residents or visitors to use. Members of the public can collect the equipment, carry out a short litter pick, dispose of the collected litter in a nearby street bin, and then return the kit to the station for others.

The Quick Pick Stations have been constructed by the Council’s Community Justice clients using recycled pallets, with signage designed by Greenspace. This approach not only promotes sustainability but also provides opportunities for local people to contribute to the community.

Councillor David McBride, Convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “This is a fantastic example of the power of community collaboration and I want to thank both the Friends of Dumbarton Foreshore and Friends of Leven River Valley for their role in making this happen.

“These Quick Pick Stations make it easier than ever for people to get involved in looking after their communities.”

Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, Vice Convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development, added: “I am delighted that we have acted on the feedback of these two local groups who are out and about in the community and have identified this need. This project shows how everyone can play a part to protecting the environment, keeping our local rivers and paths clean.”

The first Quick Pick Station is up and running at Millburn Park with more to follow at Havoc in Dumbarton and near Dumbarton Castle in the coming weeks.
