West Dunbartonshire Council, like all councils, faces ongoing cost increases, from an anticipated real terms reduction in funding and increased demand for services. Just like your household budget, the Council is experiencing the impact of inflation including rising energy, goods and service delivery costs.

In 2027/28 we anticipate a funding gap of £10.906m rising cumulatively to £44.029m by 2030/31.

The settlement from the Scottish Government will not be confirmed until December 2026 however it is not expected to be sufficient to keep pace with the costs of delivering our services at current levels.

The Council is legally required to set a balanced budget each year and, with ever reducing funding, the options available to us to continue delivering services in the same way are increasingly limited.

That is why it is extremely important for us to understand what services and priorities matter most to you.

Your views and feedback gathered as part of the Budget Conversation will be reviewed and shared with officers and Elected Members to help us understand what is important to you when we consider budget proposals later this year.
