Gruggies Burn Flood Alleviation Scheme
Gruggies Burn Flood Alleviation Scheme is a scheme to provide flood protection for the Dumbarton East area.
Due to the burn’s steep catchment and rapid runoff, there is a risk of significant flooding and, therefore, West Dunbartonshire Council has been investigating ways in which this can be mitigated, to protect nearby properties.
In July 2025, the scheme was confirmed with no objections received. In December 2025, during a meeting of the Council, elected members voted to proceed with the full flood alleviation scheme. Further details can be found on the Press Release: Gruggies Burn flood scheme
Work will now be undertaken to have the delivery agreement contract, which is a legal document required in a process like this, signed by 31 March 2026, subject to financial commitment for 80% of the project costs from the Scottish Government.
The appointed Contractor will work on finalising the design by Summer 2026 with a view to work beginning in late 2026.
When a previous consultation was carried out, the Council was required to publish a Scheme Statement and Scheme Drawings and these are below:
- Statement
- Scheme Layout and Land Affected by the Operations Drawings
- Flow Diversion Culvert (including inlet and outlet)
- Flood Walls Drawings
- Tidal Embankment Drawings
- Tidal Flood Gate Drawings
- Utilities Drawings
Also available are a number of background reports and these are listed below:
