On 2 February 2022 West Dunbartonshire Council’s Licensing Committee resolved to licence Sexual Entertainment Venues. As of 17 May 2023 premises operating as Sexual Entertainment Venues will require a licence.
In deciding to licence Sexual Entertainment Venues the Licensing Committee noted that “…by failing to introduce a licensing regime, operators would be free to open Sexual Entertainment Venues across West Dunbartonshire without oversight by the Council”.
Having resolved to licence Sexual Entertainment Venues, the Licensing Committee determined that the appropriate number of Sexual Entertainment Venues within the localities that make up West Dunbartonshire is NIL (0). It should be noted that the Licensing Committee carried out an extensive evidence gathering process – including two public consultations – prior to arriving at this number.
Given that the Licensing Committee has determined that the appropriate number of Sexual Entertainment Venues within West Dunbartonshire is nil, potential applicants are strongly advised to seek independent legal advice prior to making an application.
The Licensing Committee has determined that the fee for a Sexual Entertainment Venue licence is £2,182. This licence has a duration of three years (subject to any restriction imposed by the Licensing Committee when determining the licence application). You should note that the licence fee is non-refundable.
