Applicants for a taxi driver’s/private hire car driver’s licence or a temporary taxi driver’s/private hire car driver’s licence are required to pass a knowledge test after the application has been submitted.

Applicants will be allowed 3 attempts at passing the knowledge test. Failure to pass the test after 3 attempts will result in the application being refused.

No refund on the application fee will be given if applicants fail to pass the test after 3 attempts.

Once you have applied and are ready to attempt the test, contact the Licensing Team (email – licensing@west-dunbarton.gov.uk) to make arrangements and you will be advised of the location, date and time. Similar arrangements will be made for any subsequent knowledge test that may be required in the event of an unsuccessful attempt.

The Test

• The test is a multiple choice test where you will be offered 4 answers only one of which is correct.
• Applicants are required to attain 75% in order to pass
• The test is invigilated. The use of a mobile phone is not permitted
• The test will be scored and the applicant will be advised of the outcome in due course
• Applicants have a maximum of 3 attempts to pass the test
• The test cannot be taken online and will be in person. Applicants must bring photographic identification with them to the test.
