Sylvania Way is a busy thoroughfare located at the southern edge of the Clyde Shopping Centre. It is the main pedestrian route linking the shopping centre with Clydebank railway station and bus interchange on Chalmers Street.
The shopping centre, which was developed in the 1980s, straddles both the north and south sides of the Forth and Clyde Canal and forms the retail centre of Clydebank. The northern part is fully enclosed, but the southern part focused on Sylvania Way is largely exposed to the elements.
Improvements to the Sylvania Way public realm were completed in early 2021. The project, funded by the Town Centre Fund, has greatly enhanced the look and feel of the area. The enhanced space includes new landscape islands with trees, seating and better paving which give a softer feel to the urban environment and makes it a more attractive and welcoming shopping environment for people to use. The changes have been welcomed by both the owners of commercial premises along the route and the local community.
