Many local residents still have some connection to the Singer factory that stood here in Clydebank for almost 100 years – they themselves, friends or family may have worked there, and the brand is so well-known that everyone seems to have a Singer story to tell.
In 2017, we started collecting ‘Singer Stories’ to capture memories of factory life and why Singer is important to people. Volunteers interviewed ex-employees of the factory and we distributed story cards around West Dunbartonshire and further afield for people to write their Singer Stories on. These films and cards were all displayed at the Singer Stories Festival in May 2018 and can be viewed in the slideshow below.
