Trace Your Family History

These resources include census returns, old parish registers, burial and cremation records.

Dumbarton Heritage Centres and Clydebank Heritage Centres have a large collection of genealogical material available to view and research with expert guidance from our Local History Librarians.

As well as a substantial collection of books on the subject, there are:

  • Old Parish Registers of Dunbartonshire and parts of Stirlingshire and Argyll (on microfilm)

  • Census Returns for the same area (on microfilm)

  • Index to the 1891 Census for Dunbartonshire, Stirlingshire, Argyll and Renfrewshire (on microfiche)

  • Old Parish Register Index for Dunbartonshire, Stirlingshire, Argyll Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire

  • International Genealogical Index (IGI) for the whole of the U.K. and Ireland (on microfiche).
