We are committed to providing healthy, nutritious, good value meal options to our pupils from early years up to secondary schools. Our experienced Catering staff prepare around 1 million meals per annum. All of our Catering staff are trained in food hygiene and they all hold an Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate and receive regular refresher training. In addition our Catering Managers and Cooks all hold an Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate. All kitchens follow the HACCP guidance and comply with Environmental Health legislation. All the catering staff are also trained in Allergen and Nutritional Awareness.

All of our menus comply with the Scottish Government's Schools (Health Promotion and Nutrition) (Scotland) Act 2007 and with Healthy eating in schools - guidance 2020.

West Dunbartonshire have now gained the Food for Life Served Here Bronze Award. The Food for Life Served Here award requires our caterers to demonstrate compliance with the national food and drink guidelines for early years up to secondary schools and verifies that our catering staff have these systems in place for meeting the standards that are required. Food for Life means – We use more locally sourced and ethical ingredients that support our local economy which means we provide better food for health, nature and our climate.

We are very proud to use where possible Scottish produce. All of our meat is either QMS (Quality Meat Scotland) and Red Tractor guaranteed. All of our fish that we use is MSC (Marine Stewardship Council). West Dunbartonshire take sustainability very seriously. We only use free range eggs and all of our milk is all from Scottish Farms and from Scottish Cattle.
