Renewing items

Books should be returned within four weeks or in some cases it may be two weeks depending on the item being borrowed. Due dates are stamped on items when they are borrowed.

If you can't return borrowed items back by the due date, items can easily be renewed:

  • By visiting Library Online and log in using your library card number and 4 digit PIN*
    (*If you don't know your PIN then send us an email to request one or ask a member of staff the next time you visit one of our libraries.)

  • by phoning any WDC Library.

  • by visiting any WDC Library in person and speaking to a member of staff.

This renewal will be for a further four week period unless the item is requested by another borrower.

Books can be renewed without coming into the library up to three times, and then must be brought into a library for further renewal.

Reserve an Item

If you have a WDC Library account  with a library card and PIN, you can reserve an item in any of our libraries and they will hold it until you can pick it up by:

  1. Logging into to your online account.
  2. Searching our online catalogue.
  3. Use the Place Reservation button beside the item you would like to reserve.
  4. Finally, select the library you would like to pick the item up from and confirm the reservation.
  5. when logged into your online account you can track and even cancel the reservation at any time.

You will receive an email* telling you when the item is ready to collect from your chosen library. 
*You must have an active email address listed on your library account. You can add an email address by contacting your local library or submitting this form.

Request or Suggest a New Item

If you can't find the item you are looking for in our online catalogue or library you can:

  • Make a request to purchase the item at any of our public libraries.
  • Use our online form to either request a specific title you would like us to purchase and/or suggest ways in which we can improve our stock.

Email notification service - overdue notices and reserved items

Sign up for our free email notification service at West Dunbartonshire Libraries.

When you sign up you will receive:

  • early warning when an item is about to become overdue.
  • notification when items have become overdue.
  • notification when items you have reserved are ready for your collection.

Remember if you have items out on loan and are about to become overdue you can renew the item(s) over the phone or online by logging into your library account.
