West Dunbartonshire has a number of designated conservation areas.
Conservation areas are areas of special architectural or historical interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. Selection and designation is carried out by the planning authority, although Scottish Ministers have powers to designate conservation areas.
If you live in a conservation area, and you are planning to change or demolish your building contact Development Management to get advice and find out how to apply for permission if needed.
You can view each of our conservation areas below:
Conservation Area Appraisals are prepared by planning authorities as a management tool to identify the special interests and changing needs of conservation areas. Conservation area appraisals inform the preparation of planning policy and development management decisions. The Council has prepared Conservation Area Appraisals for a number of its conservation areas.
All of the conservation area appraisals can be viewed/downloaded at the Planning Service’s Guidance and other guidance and information page
