WDC Libraries Terms and Conditions
Library Rules
West Dunbartonshire Library Service aims to provide a friendly, welcoming and professional environment where all visitors and staff are respected.
Behaviour and Respect
- Library users must be respectful and considerate to other library users and library staff.
- Anti-social, abusive, or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in removal or a ban from all WDC libraries and services.
- Library users must comply with any directions given to them by library staff in the course of their duties.
Library Services and Resources
- Books and other library materials should be handled with care, and any damage caused by misuse may incur a charge.
- Access to library computers and borrowing entitlements will be suspended when customers have one or more overdue or lost items.
- All library computer and WiFi users must follow the Public Access ICT Terms of Use Policy.
Health and Safety
- Library users should report any health and safety issues or concerns to a member of library staff as soon as possible.
- Smoking, vaping, consuming alcohol, and illegal drugs are not permitted on library premises.
- No charging of vapes or e-cigarettes on library premises.
- Library users must leave the premises immediately on hearing the fire alarm or when requested to do so by library staff.
Noise, Media and Digital Device Use
- No photography, filming, or sound recording (including on phones) without prior staff consent.
- Mobile phones should be set to silent mode in the library.
- Portable audio players (such as mobile phones, tablets, etc.) may be used with headphones; however, their use must not disturb other library users.
Use of the Library Space
- Food and drink not provided by the library should not be consumed within library premises
- No animals, other than assistance animals, are permitted in the library.
- No bicycles, scooters, or other wheeled conveyances are permitted in the library, other than wheelchairs, mobility scooters, pushchairs, or prams.
- Library users must not enter any part of the library premises identified as staff-only or for private use.
Children, Property and Liability
- Parents, carers, and adults with parental responsibility are responsible for the supervision and behaviour of their children at all times within library premises. Library staff are not responsible for the supervision of children of any age.
- Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent, carer, or adult with parental responsibility at all times within library premises.
- Unattended belongings are left at the owner's risk. The library service and West Dunbartonshire Council accept no liability for the loss or theft of any item on library premises.
All library users must abide by these Terms and Conditions which may be updated.
Staff may withdraw access to library facilities and resources, in full or in part, from anyone who fails to follow the library Terms and Conditions.
