Adam McNaught

Adam McNaught leaves Dumbarton Academy to join Babcock as an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer to fulfil his long-time ambition of being an engineer.

Adam secured this apprenticeship after completing a college course this session: the National Progression Award in Engineering with Babcock International. Adam has fully embraced the opportunities he has had through this course developing new knowledge and skills and has enjoyed the real-life contexts for learning the course has offered. Throughout his time at Dumbarton Academy Adam showed a passion for working in practical subjects including Practical Woodwork and Practical Metalwork. Adam has also previously completed a Plumbing pre-apprenticeship course through the Schools’ College programme and the range of skills he has developed throughout these courses will stand him in good stead for the future.

Adam credits his passion for practical skills to our Technical department as he enjoyed the positive departmental ethos and it is where he felt most at home in the school.

Adam moves onto his next steps with our best wishes and he is delighted to have secured an apprenticeship and looks forward to continuing to make his family proud of his achievements.

Imogen Mooney

Imogen Mooney leaves Dumbarton Academy to study BA Hons Sports Development & Coaching at Stirling University.

Imogen has always shown a keen interest in sports and is an excellent footballer, playing with Rangers Football Club alongside Dumbarton Academy Girls’ Football team. Imogen further developed her knowledge of the game through completing the Level 7 SFA Referee Development course as part of her curriculum.

During her time at Dumbarton Academy Imogen developed a range of skills which will help her in her next steps including being involved with Sports Leaders and the West Dunbartonshire Council Coaching Academy, delivering sessions in local primary schools and gaining coaching experience.

Imogen has also been a very active member of our school community as a member of our Sports Council, a senior volunteer for PE and showing a commitment to social justice through her fundraising work as part of her Level 6 Leadership award.

Before Imogen starts at Stirling University she has one last commitment as a Dumbarton Academy pupil, travelling to Eswatini as part of the World Challenge programme. The programme offers transformative travel experiences right around the world, complementing school learning and giving students the opportunity to become true life-learners and true global citizens. Imogen has held fundraising sporting events as part of her preparation for the trip and is looking forward to learning about a different culture and way of life. She plans to engage with the communities they will spend time in through playing and teaching sport to local children.
