Sam McArthur 6D

Advanced Apprentice Joinery, BAE Systems

Sam McArthurSam McArthur leaves Saint Peter the Apostle to take up an Advanced Apprenticeship Joinery at BAE Systems.

Naturally drawn to hands-on tasks, Sam excelled in practical woodwork throughout his time at school.

To secure one of these competitive apprenticeships, Sam had to complete a multi-stage selection process against a vast number of young people applying from across the country. His confidence in his choice was reinforced when he completed a week-long work experience placement with BAE Systems which gave him first-hand experience at the sheer scale of operations within a global defence leader, alongside trade taster sessions that confirmed his passion for the craft.

Beginning his role in August, Sam will be working within BAE Systems' renowned naval ships team. His four-year training programme offers an incredible blend of workplace learning and formal education, where he will split his time between hands-on training on-site and block-release learning at college. Over the four years, he will work towards achieving industry-recognised SVQ qualifications, building a solid foundation for a lifetime of success with a top-tier global employer.

Everyone at St Peter the Apostle High School is incredibly proud of Sam’s outstanding achievement. We wish Sam the very best as he begins this exciting first chapter of his professional career.
